Architectural sheet metal
materials and finishes

Gauge, coating chemistry and base metal decide almost everything that follows: colour range, warranty, coastal performance and cost. Pick a material below and the tools reconfigure around it.

Material Comparison Tool

Every material, side by side

Twelve attributes across all eight materials. Ratings are relative to this product set, not absolute. A 3 for corrosion resistance on painted steel is still a properly engineered assembly. Click any column heading to load that material into the configurator.

Compare two materials across price, weight, durability, warranty and more.

Comparison of eight sheet metal materials across twelve attributes
Ratings shown out of 5, relative to the materials in this table. Weights are approximate and exclude fasteners, cleats and underlayment. Lifespan assumes correct detailing, free drainage and normal exposure.

Copper

A finish that keeps working after you leave

Copper is the only material here that is not finished when it is installed. Scrub the timeline, or press play, to watch a standing seam cap move from mill bright through russet and chocolate brown to full verdigris.

Weathering rate depends on rainfall, orientation, air chemistry and how much of the surface is sheltered. Coastal and industrial exposures reach verdigris faster; a protected face under a deep overhang can stay brown for decades. Pre-patinated copper is available where matching an existing installation matters more than watching the change.

Zinc

Quiet luxury, measured in generations

Rolled zinc-copper-titanium in four architectural finishes. Hover any rendering to pull up the close-up texture. The surface structure is what separates zinc from a grey painted panel.
